SMC Regional Hospital Prototype

The Regional Hospital Prototype is one of the SMC’s healthcare plans, aimed towards serving the five major regions of Sudan. These cities were chosen by SMC in a successful endeavor, of decentralizing healthcare facilities in a country which has been suffering from the impracticality; inconveniences and life threatening situations, imposed by centralizing basic lifesaving services in the capital city Khartoum.

SMC Regional Hospital prototype will be located in Addamer, Kosti, El Geniena, El Obeid and Alfashir. Elfashir, El Obeid and Addamer are capital cities of the following estates respectively; North Kurdofan, North Darfur and The State of River Nile, while Kosti and El Geneina are major cities.

The first phase of SMC’s implementation plan; is initiated by designing a regional hospital prototype for, Addammer, Algeneina and Kosti.

Although these cities are known for having different characters, yet they all share the same cultural heritage and social context; shaped by The River Nile and agricultural context as well as Afro Arab ethnicity.

The city of Kosti’s site has been chosen, to demonstrate the prototype, for its plot characteristics are challenging; in terms of shape, orientation and area. The plot has a narrow rectangular shape, with the longer sides facing East and West. Total plot area is 27, 000 sqm.
