Sheikh Zayed Sudan Complex

This magnificent project was initiated by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs & Endowments, Awqaf; of Abu Dhabi, UAE. The project’s site area is 119, 335 sqm. It consists of four zones, covering healthcare, education, retail & residential sectors. It is located in Omdurman in close proximity to Omdurman Islamic University; which its master plan was also done by Tekno Consultancy’s late founder architect Ayoub, in the late seventies.

The healthcare zone accommodates a 100 beds general hospital. It is equipped with eight specializations outpatient clinics, diagnostics, emergency as well as a 25 bed maternity department, with full staff facilities. Design follows international healthcare standards. Eco friendliness and cost effectiveness played a magnificent role in the design. The hospital has its own parking zone allowing for 252 parking lots.

The educational Zone is composed of two schools, one for boys and another one for girls, preschool and a nursery as well. Gender segregation, local educational system and safety were major design definers for the teams working on them, ensuring quality built-environment provision for its users with an efficient function and unique appearances.

Retail & Residential zones are combined in one structure. 144 retail outlets are placed as a courtyard shopping mall with covered arcades and shaded walkways; while 126 studio apartments rest on its top; occupying the whole first floor. Parking lots sum up to 638 in total

A mosque of 1600-person capacity, is embracing kids play areas and a basketball/football pitch, within its lawns. The whole mosque is surrounded by a running track, which helps the population living in the area, in leading a healthy life style.

It was requested to give the complex a traditional Emarati architectural look, mainly from Qasr Al Hosn, Abu Dhabi; yet to have it responding to and complying with international building standards and technologies.

Design teams with healthcare design expertise, mixed use architecture skillfulness and structural design competence, as well MEP and Infrastructure forte, backed up by a strong PMO office; worked in synergy to deliver this much needed facility. Our teams were driven by willingness to help improve lives; through hard work, empathy and compassion.
